Massage Treatments

Your body’s pretty good at letting you know it needs a massage—if only it could also tell you what type of massage it would most benefit from. If you’re new to massage or have never ventured past your normal Swedish session, it might be confusing to navigate all the different types of massage out there. Luckily, we’re here to help you decipher the many different styles and benefits of massage so you can book the one that’s best for you.

MEDICAL MASSAGE– Medical Massage is a result oriented treatment and is specifically directed to resolve conditions that have been diagnosed, recommended or even prescribed by a physician. The treatment is focused only on the areas of the body related to the diagnosis.

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE-Deep Tissue–Deep tissue massage is best for giving attention to certain painful, stiff “trouble spots” in your body. The massage therapist uses slow, deliberate strokes that focus pressure on layers of muscles, tendons, or other tissues deep under your skin. Though less rhythmic than other types of massage, deep tissue massage can be quite therapeutic — relieving chronic patterns of tension and helping with muscle injuries, such as back sprain.

DEEP TISSUE–is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don’t get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

SIDE LYING MASSAGE–This position is appreciated by the client who is not comfortable with the traditional headrest position. This position is excellent for treatment of frozen shoulders, back issues, hips and breathing difficulties. This position allows the most access to the lateral rib cage than any of the massage positions. If you have never had a good side lying massage, treat yourself to the experience.

SPORTS MASSAGE--Developed to help with muscle systems used for a particular sport, sports massage uses a variety of approaches to help athletes in training — before, during, or after sports events. You might use it to promote flexibility and help prevent injuries. Or, it may help muscle strains, aiding healing after a sports injury. We have generally replaced Sports Massage with the newest theory of Rossiter but there are definite benefits of combining Sports Massage with Rossiter.

SWEDISH MASSAGE–The most common type of massage is Swedish massage therapy. It involves soft, long, kneading strokes, as well as light, rhythmic, tapping strokes, on topmost layers of muscles. This is also combined with movement of the joints. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish therapy can be both relaxing and energizing.

ABDOMINAL MASSAGE–is a specific massaging of the abdomen to relieve adhesions in the abdominal organs.  It is for clients who have had abdominal surgery and are suffering from scar tissue.    It can be a physicians prescription or an as needed basis.  It is a 20 min procedure.
CHAIR MASSAGE–Residential, Office, Retirement Center–chair massages are done while you’re seated fully clothed in a portable, specially designed chair. They usually involve a massage of your neck, shoulders, back, arms, and hands.
PREGNANCY MASSAGE–During pregnancy, your body goes through major changes. Pregnancy massage can help with these changes by reducing stress, decreasing arm and leg swelling, and relieving muscle and joint pain. Massage may be particularly helpful during a time when medication and other medical options may be more limited.  We advise pregnant clients to refrain from eating a meal for about 2 hours before a massage if possible.
